The Mining and Metallurgy Institute Bor was founded in 1962 under the name the Copper Institute Bor.
The Mining and Metallurgy Institute Bor with nearly 50 years of existence and significant work, has managed to reach the high quality and reliability in:
• scientific – research work,
• engineering and consulting,
• experimental and specialized production of materials and testing equipment,
• quality control of products, materials and production processes, and
• environmental quality control.
The Institute is active in domestic and foreign markets in the field of geology, mining, mineral processing, metallurgy, chemical technologies, chemical control, environmental protection, information technologies, industrial informatics, mechanical engineering, electronics, energy efficiency, and publishing.
The Institute publishes three journals of national importance, "Mining Engineering"(“Rudarski radovi”), "Copper" (“Bakar”) and "Innovation and Development"(“Inovacije i razvoj”).
In addition to the above activities, the Institute is engaged in developing expertise, projects and studies, investment programs, investment - technical documentation, documentation for tenders, etc. Research and development activities of the Institute include a development of pre-investment and investment projects, feasibility studies, preliminary designs, detailed designs, monitoring, supervision as well as staff training.
Over the years, the Institute has gained ​​many references in the field of mining and metallurgy of copper and precious metals over the realized projects in India, Burma, Iran, Sierra Leone, Armenia, Turkey, Zambia, Pakistan and Macedonia.
The laboratories of Institute are accredited by the Accreditation Board of Serbia, according to the Standard JUS ISO/IEC 17025, for chemical testing methods in the field of mining and metallurgy for metals and alloys of copper, gold, silver, palladium and other non-ferrous and precious metals.
The quality management system in the Institute is certified by the International Certificate House Lloyd's RQA and SGS, according to the Standard ISO 9001:2000.
